Full petition wording
To: South Norfolk Council, the Greater Norwich planning authorities, the Planning Inspectorate, and the Secretary of State, as applicable.
We, the undersigned, oppose:
- Gladman’s proposed development of c.600 houses in the north of Wymondham, between Norwich Common and the A11; and
- the allocation of this site, or any other site beyond Wymondham's existing settlement boundary, through the Local Plan Review.
We ask each relevant authority, when this matter comes before it, to refuse planning permission, dismiss any appeal, reject any call-in proposal, and/or exclude the site from future Local Plan allocations.
Our reasons are:
- The site would harm the Wymondham–Hethersett Strategic Gap, increasing the risk of coalescence and weakening the separate identity of both communities.
- Wymondham has already taken very substantial growth, and further major expansion is detrimental and unjustified.
- Local roads, schools, healthcare, drainage, public transport and other services are already under pressure.
- The cumulative impact of existing and committed development in Wymondham has not been properly addressed.
- Any future development in Wymondham needs to focus on infrastructure and facilities, be in the interest of existing local residents, and be consistent with protecting Wymondham’s character and rural setting.
Wymondham has done its share of house-building. The Strategic Gap should be protected, not treated as the next reserve landbank for speculative development.
